THE LATEST

Rainfall through 8 p.m. Wednesday: Around a half inch in Cartersville; 0.07 of an inch in Rome.

Bartow County Schools: No plans to close on Thursday but they’re monitoring Michael.

Gov. Nathan Deal adds 16 counties to those under a state of emergency. Just added: Butts, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Greene, Jasper, Lamar, Lincoln, McDuffie, Monroe, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Taliaferro and Wilkes. There are now 108 Georgia counties under the emergency declaration. Tornado watch for some parts of the state (not here) continue until 4 a.m. Thursday. (See map below).

So far, Northwest Georgia should be spared much of the rain and wind from Michael. We expect the most rain and highest gusts overnight.

  • Rainfall: An inch of rain now through noon Thursday.
  • Wind gusts: 21 to 26 mph overnight, into Thursday.

Members of the Bartow County Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team deployed to South Georgia on Tuesday as part of the regional Georgia Search & Rescue Task Force 6 to assist with search and rescue with Hurricane Michael. Capt. Jon Scott, Capt. Andrew Haygood, Firefighter Cary Wolfe and Sgt. Jody Jamison. Also deployed as part of an Incident Management Team is Battalion Chief Bruce King. (From Facebook).

From Gordon County Fire and Rescue: “Three personnel from Gordon County Fire and two personnel from Calhoun Fire, along with firefighters from other departments across NW Georgia ,left last evening as members of Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 6 (GSAR TF-6) to pre-stage in Valdosta ahead of Hurricane Michael. They are awaiting deployment to South Georgia to aid our neighbors to the south in the aftermath of this storm.”
