James Arlin Washington Locklear, 86, of Rome passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018.

A native of Fort Payne, Alabama, James was born Feburary 22, 1932, son of the late William Jack Locklear and Lena Frances Isom Locklear. He was a veteran and was employed as a mechanic with Ozment Brothers Service Station and John Deere dealership, and Rome Seed and Feed. He also had a shop at his home, and was known as “the lawnmower man”. James attended the Eden Valley Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by an infant son Rodney and infant daughter Debra, his parents; brothers William Roland, Charles Olin, Watson Lamar, and Osie Dwight “Squeaky” Locklear and a sister Barbara Beasley-Hardin.

Survivors include his sons Tony and Randall (Janet) Locklear; grandchildren TJ, Tyler (Kaitlyn), and Taylor Locklear; seven great grandchildren sister in law, Margaret Locklear, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at 5 p.m. at  Eden Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Tyler Smith officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5, American Legion.

Mrs. Susan M. Brown, 51, of Rome, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Wright Memorial Mortuary.



Mr. Rodney Lambert, age 52, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018, in a local hospital.

Mr. Lambert was born in Rome, GA on October 23, 1965, son of the late Roscoe Lambert and the late Louise Ely Lambert.  Rodney worked at the Floyd County Health Department and at Northwest Regional Medical Center.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Kanavel.

Rodney is survived by his brothers, Rick Lambert (Tona) and Reno Lambert; his sisters, Terri Hampton (George) and Dawn Lambert (Randy); several nieces and nephews.

Rodney’s graveside service will be private.  The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.

Pallbearers serving will include:  George Hampton, Marc Shiflett, Randy Blackston, Brian Lambert, Evan Lambert and Dr. Jeremy Deaton.


Mr. Anthony Hendrix, 45, of Rome, Georgia passed away Monday, October 8, 2018, at a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Wright Memorial Mortuary.
