The Rockmart Yellow Jackets moved into firm control of first place in Region 7-AA on Friday night with a win over Pepperell. Chattooga and Coosa also improved their playoff chances with their respective wins. Trion’s upset of Christian Heritage and big wins by Rome, Calhoun and Cartersville all highlighted weekend play.

This Friday night will see the lightest schedule since the second week of the season back in August. All eight teams in Region 7-AA are taking the night off as they head into the final three weeks of the regular season. Cedartown, Georgia School for the Deaf and Woodland also have open dates.

Trion (5-2, 2-2)at Class A Private Number 10 Darlington (5-1, 2-1)

  • Series History: Darlington leads 14-3
  • Last Meeting: Darlington defeated Trion 35-31 on October 13, 2017
  • The Trion Bulldogs pulled off one of the bigger upsets of Friday night in a dominating 26-7 win over once beaten Christian Heritage, The Darlington Tigers, who were off Friday night, had given the same Christian Heritage team its first loss two weeks ago in a 24-21 win. This is a key game as the power ratings determine the playoff seeding in Class A. Darlington wins by 10.

Class AAAAA Number 1 Rome (7-0, 5-0) at Paulding County (0-7, 0-5)

  • Series History: Rome leads 10-0
  • Last Meeting: Rome defeated Paulding County 62-0 on September 22, 2017
  • The Rome Wolves put together another dominating offensive effort to defeat East Paulding 62-14 to take their 34th consecutive win and remain unbeaten and ranked Number 1 in the state. The Paulding County Patriots, who were off Friday night, fell to 9-7 two weeks ago following a 54-20 loss to Kell. Paulding County has never beaten Rome. Rome wins by more than 30.

Class AAAA Number 4 Cartersville (7-0, 3-0) at Sandy Creek (4-2, 1-1)

  • Series History: Cartersville leads 5-0
  • Last Meeting: Cartersville defeated Sandy Creek 63-0 on October 13, 2017
  • The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes had another impressive showing Friday night in a 45-7 win over LaGrange as they picked up their 45th straight regular season win. The Sandy Creek Fighting Patriots improved their record to 4-2 with a 26-14 win over Chapel Hill. Cartersville wins by 18.

Adairsville (3-4, 2-3) at Sonoraville (2-4, 1-3)

  • Series History: Adairsville leads 10-2
  • Last Meeting: Adairsville defeated Sonoraville 35-25 on October 13, 2017
  • The Adairsville Tigers fell to 2-3 in Region 6-AAA play after being shut out 61-0 by Number 1 ranked Calhoun. The Sonoraville Phoenix went into overtime on the road before falling 26-23 to surprising Haralson County. Both teams are fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot from the region. Adairsville wins by 2.

Murray County (0-7, 0-5) at Class AAA Number 1 Calhoun (6-0, 4-0)

  • Series History: Calhoun leads 23-9-2
  • Last Meeting: Calhoun defeated Murray County 65-23 on November 3, 2017
  • The Murray County Indians remained winless in 2018 following a 42-7 loss to Ringgold. The Calhoun Yellow Jackets held onto their Number 1 ranking with a 61-0 shutout at Adairsville. Calhoun wins by more than 30.

East Paulding (2-4, 2-2) at Cass (1-6, 0-5)

  • Series History: Tied 3-3
  • Last Meeting: East Paulding defeated Cass 17-9 on October 6, 2017
  • The East Paulding Patriots, who entered Friday night after five games that all went down to the final minutes, suffered their first one-sided loss of the season in a 62-14 defeat at Rome. The Cass Colonels lost for the sixth straight time in a 34-21 defeat at Hiram. East Paulding wins by 15.
