FROM BARTOW COUNTY SCHOOLS:
Honoring our own:
This is a painful loss for our entire school family.
Steven James will be remembered as a polite young man who was well respected by not only his peers but his teachers and principals as well. Steven was a natural leader and a talented welder. We were honored to watch him grow at Woodland High School and the Bartow County College and Career Academy.
Our thoughts are with the James’ family as they cope with this terrible loss.
Below you’ll find pictures from last night’s vigil at WHS. Royal blue balloons were released, pictures and stories were shared, as well as a cross. The cross was presented to the James’ family before Mr. James solemnly rode off on Steven’s motorcycle. Beautiful tribute.
Candlelight vigil Sunday remembers Steven James. From Woodland High School: WHS mourns the death of 2017 Wildcat Steven James. From Georgia State Patrol:
Troopers from Post 3 in Cartersville are looking for a witness who left the scene of a fatal crash on GA 113 early Saturday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. on GA 113, just south of Old Alabama Road, on Saturday, September 29.
According to the investigating trooper, a pick-up truck being driven by Steven Jarmal James, 20, of Euharlee, was traveling in the left lane of GA 113, when the vehicle partially left the east side of the roadway in a curve. Mr. James then overcorrected his steering, and the vehicle left the west side of the roadway, striking a guardrail. After impact, Mr. James was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to the crash.
A witness at the scene told the trooper that a green Chevrolet pick-up truck, similar in year and model to Mr. James’ vehicle, was stopped at the crash scene. The vehicle had its lights turned off and it was in the left lane, directly beside Mr. James’ vehicle.
The witness made contact with the driver of the pick-up, and she spoke briefly with him. The witness then stated that once she asked if he had called 911, the driver fled the scene. The driver was described as a white male, approximately 5’10 to 6 feet tall with short, dark hair.
At this time there is no indication that this other pickup truck was involved in the crash, but there is evidence to suggest that the driver witnessed the crash. Troopers would appreciate any help in locating this individual. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Troop A Communications Center at (770) 387-3701.
