The Pepperell Dragons and Rockmart Yellow Jackets emerged as co-leaders in Region 7-AA following the third week of league play. Meanwhile, the Coosa Eagles and GSD Tigers picked up their first wins of the season and Rome, Calhoun and Cartersville all kept their unbeaten streaks alive. East Paulding-Rome, Rockmart-Pepperell, and Calhoun-Adairsville highlight this week’s play in Northwest Georgia.       

 

East Paulding(2-3, 2-1) at Class AAAAA Number 1 Rome (6-0, 4-0)

Series History: Rome leads 8-6

Last Meeting: Rome defeated East Paulding 49-14 on October 27, 2017

The East Paulding Raiders stayed locked in a close game for the fifth time this season before pulling out a 27-26 win over Hiram. The Rome Wolves broke open a 7-7 tied in the first quarter and never looked back in a 48-7 win at Woodland. The Wolves have three straight wins over the Raiders after East Paulding took five straight wins over Rome between 2006 and 2012. Rome wins by 27.

Class AA Number 3 Rockmart (6-0, 3-0) at Pepperell (4-2, 3-0)

Series History: Rockmart leads Pepperell 19-18-1

Last Meeting: Rockmart defeated Pepperell 56-42 on October 13, 2017

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets continued their early season domination in Region 7-AA by defeating Chattooga 56-0. The Pepperell Dragons won for the fourth straight week by defeating Model 41-7. These are the only two teams in Region 7-AA who still are unbeaten in league play. Rockmart wins by 19.

Model (2-4, 2-1) at Chattooga (4-2, 2-1)

Series History: Chattooga leads 9-7

Last Meeting: Chattooga defeated Model 42-13 on October 13, 2017

The Model Blue Devils suffered their first region loss in a 41-7 defeat at home against Pepperell. The Chattooga Indians could not get on the scoreboard in a 56-0 loss to undefeated Rockmart. The winner of this game will have an inside track to the state playoffs. Chattooga wins by 17.

Gordon Central (1-4, 0-3) at Armuchee (1-5, 0-3)

Series History: Armuchee leads 3-2-1

Last Meeting: Gordon Central defeated Armuchee 29-22 on October 13, 2017

The Gordon Central Warriors fell to 1-4 overall and remained winless in Region 7-AA following a narrow 13-12 loss to Dade County. The Armuchee Tigers were tied in the third quarter before Coosa took control in the fourth quarter and beat the Indians 51-29. Armuchee wins by 1.

Coosa (1-5, 1-2) at Dade County (1-5, 1-2)

Series History: Coosa leads 17-7

Last Meeting: Coosa defeated Dade County 42-14 on October 13, 2017

The Coosa Eagles broke a close game open in the fourth quarter to win for the first time in 2018 in a 51-29 victory over Armuchee. The Dade County Wolverines also overcame an 0-5 start with a 13-12 road win over Gordon Central. Coosa wins by 20.

LaGrange (1-4, 0-2) at Class AAAA Number 4 Cartersville (6-0, 2-0)

Series History: LaGrange leads 5-2

Last Meeting: Cartersville defeated LaGrange 56-0 on October 6, 2017

The LaGrange Grangers put a scare into Cedartown on Thursday night before going down to a 9-6 loss to Cedartown. The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes, who had beaten Cedartown by only one point the week before, were dominant Friday night in a 45-10 win over Central of Carrollton. Cartersville wins by more than 30.

 

Class AAA Number 1 Calhoun (5-0, 2-0) at Adairsville (3-3, 2-2)

Series History: Calhoun leads 19-9

Last Meeting: Calhoun defeated Adairsville 42-16 on October 6, 2017

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets, who are coming off a bye week, remain unbeaten and ranked Number 1 following a 49-7 win two weeks ago over Ringgold. The Adairsville Tigers evened their season mark at 3-3 with a 13-12 win over L-FO. Calhoun wins by more than 30.

Central of Carrollton (2-4, 1-1) at Cedartown (3-3, 1-1)

Series History: Cedartown leads 14-10

Last Meeting: Cedartown defeated Central 35-14 on October 6, 2017

The Central Lions fell to 2-4 following a 45-10 loss at Cartersville. The Cedartown Bulldogs evened their record at 3-3 with a 9-6 win on Thursday night on the road over LaGrange. Cedartown wins by 28.

Class AAAAA Number 5 Carrollton (5-1, 3-1) at Woodland (4-2, 2-2)

Series History: Carrollton leads 2-0

Last Meeting: Carrollton defeated Woodland 41-6 on September 22, 2017

The Carrollton Trojans ran their record to 5-1 following a 41-7 road win at Cass. The Woodland Wildcats, who started the season 4-0, lost for the second week in a row in a 48-7 defeat by Rome. Carrollton wins by 28.

Christian Heritage (4-1, 1-1) at Trion (4-2, 1-2)

Series History: Trion leads 4-2

Last Meeting: Trion defeated Christian Heritage 59-10 on September 29, 2017

The Christian Heritage Lions, who had knocked Mt. Zion from the ranks of the unbeaten the week before, lost for the first time in 2018 in a 24-21 defeat by Darlington. The Trion Bulldogs were shut out for the first time since 2015 in a 28-0 loss to Mt. Zion. Christian Heritage wins by 3.

Sonoraville (2-3, 1-2) at Haralson County (4-1, 2-1)

Series History: Sonoraville leads 2-0

Last Meeting: Sonoraville defeated Haralson County 33-0 on October 6, 2017

The Sonoraville Phoenix, who were coming off a big win over Murray County, had trouble on both sides of the ball in a 28-7 loss to Ringgold. The Haralson County Rebels continued to be the surprise team in Region 6-AAA with a 37-19 win over Coahulla Creek. Haralson County wins by 10.

Cass (1-5, 0-4) at Hiram (2-3, 2-1)

Series History: Tied 2-2

Last Meeting: Hiram defeated Cass 14-7 on September 15, 2017

The Cass Colonels lost their fifth game in a row in a 41-7 defeat by Carrollton. The Hiram Hornets looked like they were on the verge of pulling an upset before going down in a 27-26 loss to East Paulding. Hiram wins by 15.

Georgia School for the Deaf (1-3) at Tennessee School for the Deaf (1-1) (Saturday)

Last Meeting: TSD defeated GSD 40-6 on August 27, 2016

The GSD Tigers, who went into Saturday following an 0-3 start, enjoyed homecoming with a 44-22 win over Carolina Schools for the Deaf. The TSD Vikings, who did not play football in 2016, fell to 1-1 following a 48-6 loss to Mississippi School for the Deaf. Georgia School for the Deaf wins by 16.

OFF—Darlington (5-1, 2-1 following a 24-21 win over Christian Heritage) and Unity Christian School (3-3, 2-1 after losing to Praise Academy 58-26).
