Two Rome men indicted on murder charges by grand jurors; both killings occurred in June. Plus: Additional indictments.

Grady Harper Jr., a suspect in the June murder of John Alton Allen Jr., indicted on murder charge. His indictment was part of the grand jury presentments released on Friday. Case background:

Allen was found with multiple gun shot wounds outside a home at 302 Wright St. off North Broad Street.  Grady, the suspect in one of two weekend murders in Rome in June, fled the area after the shooting, according to Rome Police. He was found later in the month. “The U.S. Marshal’s office located him in Savannah on this date … Floyd County Deputies are en route to transport Harper back to Floyd County,” according to a statement from Assistant Police Chief Debbie Burnett at the time.

Smith

Nakotah Smith, charged with killing a Rome woman just days after she gave birth, indicted on murder charge. Grand jurors also return an indictment against Smith in another of the city’s June murders. Smith, 33, was wanted in connection with the June 15 shooting death of Crystal Vega. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault and probation violation, according to Floyd County Jail reports.  He was apprehended at a home on Hillside Drive, near ACE Hardware in Lindale, by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office after a tip was received.
