THE LATEST

Evening thunderstorm leaves 0.38 of an inch of rain, 22-mph gusts: The first wave has moved through and it appears what’s next is not as intense (as of 8:05 p.m). The ag weather station off Bells Ferry reported a quarter inch of rain but gusts up to almost 35 mph.

Power outages: We have roughly 130 customers without service as of 8:05 p.m., most of whom are in Coosa but another 50 or so are out near Lavender Mountain. Restoration time is between 10:15 and 10:45 p.m. Click Georgia Power outage map.

OUTLOOK

There’s a 40-50% chance of rain and thunderstorms today increasing overnight into Monday. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected Sunday through Wednesday, primarily in the afternoon and evening. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall. The weather hazards for Thursday and Friday, if any, will greatly depend on the track of Tropical Storm Florence. Florence is forecast to become a major hurricane as she moves across the western Atlantic late Tuesday and beyond, and could threaten the Southeast Coastal areas of Georgia, North and South Carolina.

Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind around 5 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Monday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
