The Knights of Columbus Labor Day Barbecue returns today at the Rome Civic Center across from Steak ‘n Shake. Doors open at 10 a.m. sharp and stay open until 2 p.m. or sold out. Guests are welcome to dine in or carry out. Options include barbecue plates, sandwiches or bulk sales. Tickets are $10 each. Here’s what’s on the menu on Labor Day:
- $10 plates with your choice of beef, pork, ribs or a quarter of a chicken — each served with Brunswick stew, baked beans, chips and bread included.
- A pound of beef or pork to go, $10 each.
- $5 sandwich combo.
- $7 for half a chicken or a quart of baked beans.
- $10 for a quart of Brunswick stew.
- $20 for a half rack of spare ribs.

Look ahead to next weekend, Sept. 6-9:
Friday, Sept. 7: Rome Braves host Lexington Legends in game two of the best-of-three South Atlantic League championship series at 7 p.m. Rome also would host game three on Saturday if a third game is needed. Ticket prices range from $5 to $11 in advance or $6 to $13 the day of the games. Rome clinched a playoff berth by winning the Southern Division in first half of the season. For more: 706-378-5100.
Angus beef, artisan cheese and fresh vegetables are just some of the items that will be available Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Berry College annual fall Farmers Market. The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Clara Bowl drive adjacent to the Ford buildings and is hosted by the Berry College Student Enterprise Program. Other student-run businesses include Viking Furniture, Blue Hen Eggs, Berry Bees (lip balm & candles made with beeswax), Jersey Milk (artisan cheese), Seasons Harvest (flowers, plants & produce), as well as 30 outside vendors offering handmade jewelry, locally grown plants and more. Super Football Saturday, a tailgate party: Hosted by Lawrence Plantation at 128 Winding Road off Horseleg. Charbucks Mobile Food Truck will be on hand to feed everyone (food not included in admission price). Shorter University Hawks have their home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Barron Stadium vs. Tusculum.
