Obituaries: Mrs. Wanda Curry Green, Mrs. Dorothy Dell King Holsomback, Mr. Demethris  T. “Meatball” Jennings, Mrs. Juanita Chason Mull and Mrs. Lucille Weatherby

Mrs. Dorothy Dell King Holsomback, age 96, of the Rosemont Park Community, Rome, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Holsomback was born in Chickamauga, Georgia on November 25, 1921, daughter of the late James Oakley King and the late Josephine Doran King.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilton Holsomback, on January 12, 1979; by three sisters, Pauline King Jackson, Sybil King Kilgo, and Jimmie Jo King Knight; by a nephew, Granger King “Butch” Knight, and by a niece, Kelly Knight.

Mrs. Holsomback a member of the Lindale First Baptist Church where she sang in the Adult Choir for over 61 years, was part of the Senior Adult Ministries and a longtime member of the W. M. U. program holding all of their offices.  She was a graduate of Cave Spring High School and the Carroll Lynn School of Business.  For many years, she volunteered as a mentor for the Pepperell District Elementary Schools.  She was retired from the Floyd County Schools where she worked as the Secretary at Pepperell High School for several years.  After retirement, she continued her service to Pepperell High School by selling tickets at the football games.  She was the first full-time Secretary at Pepperell High School, following her sister who only was there for a few months, and was hired by Mr. Russell Moulton who was the Superintendent and Principal.  She was a former member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary holding many offices.

Survivors include a sister-in-law who was like her daughter, Ann Holsomback Eckroat (Dale), Rome; “grandsons”, Peter Eckroat (Yeri), Rome, and Derrick Eckroat (Lindsay), Summerville; “great grandchildren”, Joseph, Jackson, Jansen & Clara Eckroat; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Holsomback, Athens; nieces, Gail Parks (Bud), Sheila Knight Threatt (Fred), Jody Knight Hamrick (Micah), Kim Kilgo Carroll (Scott), and Robin Kilgo; a nephew, James Edward Jackson; several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 2pm at the Lindale First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Whelchel officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 4 until 7pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Lindale First Baptist Church on Thursday, at 1:30pm and include: Active: Scott Carroll, Micah Hamrick, Michael Erwin, Jr., John Cooper, Rex Puckett and Danny Shedd. Honorary: The Senior Ladies Sunday School Class at Lindale First Baptist Church and the Monday Bingo Group at the Gilbreath Center.

Mr. Demethris  T. “Meatball” Jennings, age 48 of Atlanta, GA passed on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.  Services for Mr. Jennings will be Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Word of Faith Love Center ( 2425 Ben Hill Road East Point, Georgia ) at 11 am.  The body will lie instate from 10 am until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart, Ga..

Mrs. Juanita Chason Mull, age 94, of Lindale, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, at the residence of her son.

Mrs. Mull was born in Gadsden County, Florida on October 17, 1923, daughter of the late Ary Chason and the late Susie Brown Chason.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Mull, and by two brothers, Woodrow Green and Williston Chason.  She was a graduate of Massey Business College, Jacksonville, FL, and Grady Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Atlanta.  She was Clerk/Secretary of the 447th AAFS at Tyndall Field, FL during World War II and was a dental technician at Florida State Hospital for 5 years.  Mrs. Mull retired from Lindale Manufacturing Company after 38 years as an Occupational Health Nurse where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  She was a member of Lindale United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and served in various church offices.  She did volunteer work in many areas since retirement.

Survivors include her son, Chason Mull and his wife, Kathy, Rome; 2 grandchildren, Strom Mull, Rome and Robert Mull, Atlanta; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at 12noon at the Lindale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Caywood officiating.  Private interment will be later at Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Lindale United Methodist Church on Tuesday from 11am until the service time.

Mrs. Lucille Weatherby, age 81, of Rome, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Weatherby was born in Floyd County, Georgia on September 19, 1936, daughter of the late John Langham and the late Lillie Mae Arp Langham.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Weatherby, by a son, Jerry Weatherby, by two sisters, Elizabeth “Bett” Maddox and JoAnn, and by two brothers, Carl Langham and John Henry Langham.  Mrs. Weatherby was a homemaker and was a member of the New Bethel Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include her companion, Marvin Caldwell, Rome; five daughters, Patricia Rainey (Keith), Rockmart, Jeanette Carlile (Keith), Cartersville, Linda Barnes (Terry), Rome, Julie Treadway, Rome, and Charlotte Hendrix, Rome; two step-sons, Claude Weatherby (Margaret), Silver Creek, and Donald Weatherby (Mary), Cedartown; two step-daughters, Grace Keith, Cartersville, and Inez Woods, Rome; a daughter-in-law, Ivy Weatherby; a sister, Betty Williams; two brothers, David Langham (Brenda) and Alvin Langham; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. George Nix officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday at 1:30pm
