Buzz: Firefighters at Walmarts, Kroger this weekend collecting for MDA. Tumor Trooper Run/Walk returns Oct. 6.

Beginning Thursday through Saturday, the Rome/Floyd Fire Department will have firefighters at both Walmarts in Rome between 10 a.m.and 8 p.m., collecting money for MDA. We will have firefighters located at Kroger Thursday through Saturday between 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. also collecting money. Come out and help us to “Fill the Boot” so we can help MDA. All proceeds go toward helping families with Muscular Dystrophy by funding research, MDA Care Centers and sending children to MDA summer camp.


Tumor Trooper Run/Walk returns Oct. 6. The annual event started by cancer patient Charlie Henderson is a 5K run and 1-mile walk to help children with brain and spinal cord tumors is set for Richard B. Russell Airport/Towers Field. Check-in and registration begins at 7 a.m. with the one-mile walk starting at 8 a.m and the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Registration continues through Sept. 28 at $25 per person. That rises to $30 on Sept. 29. Phantom Runners are $25 (can’t be there but want the T-shirt). The event benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Georgia chapter. Awards for those 10 years and under to 70 years and older.
