Blacks Bluff Road will be reduced to one lane near Brushy Branch Boat Ramp. This lane closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday morning until notified further. This lane closure will be in effect for Public Works to repair the road. Traffic will be able to use this area, but expect delays. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Floyd County Democratic Party elected four delegates and two alternates to the state Democratic convention slated for August 25 in Atlanta. Oralia Limon Caldera and Larry Morrow were elected by the local membership and in the open caucus. Terrell Shaw and TaShan Parks Twyman earned spots to the state event. LaTonya Burrell and David Harris were voted alternates.
About the delegates: Caldera is the treasurer and an executive board member for Romanos Unidos, a local immigrant rights group. She is a business partner with her husband at PC Construction. Morrow is a long-time Rome resident, retired from Norfolk Southern after 34 years, and Pakmail Centers of America, which he owned and operated with his wife Gerri. Twyman, a native Roman, is a Business Consultant and Marketing Strategist who has worked more than 20 years connecting the interests of NWGA to the political leaders in metro Atlanta. Shaw is a retired educator with 31 years of teaching in Floyd County schools and a longtime activist, particularly on environmental issues.
Alternates LaTonya Burrell and David Harris will also attend the convention as non-voting delegates from Floyd County. Burrell is the owner and operator of the 7 Hills Supper Club. Harris, a Georgia resident all his life, has recently moved to Silver Creek. In addition to the elected delegates, state committee members Ruth Demeter, Ralph Davis, Vinny Olsziewski and Wendy Davis are eligible to attend the convention.
