Mr. Melvin Lee Ely, Sr., age 73, of Lindale, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
Mr. Ely was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 31, 1944, son of the late Dewey Wilburn Ely and the late Myrtle Lee Garrett Ely. He was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Brandon Pegg and Dakota Ferguson, and by 6 brothers, J. D., Jerry, Paul, Tommy, Ray & Joe Ely. Mr. Ely was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church and formerly worked at Bekaert.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Miller Ely, to whom he was married on November 2, 1973; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Griffin (Robert), Frances Marie Ferguson (Greg), Sherry Lee Pegg (Michael), and Tammy Tibbs (Tony); two sons, Melvin Lee Ely, Jr. (Tammy) and Chris Little; a sister, Patsy Ruth Ellison (Jerry); a brother, Danny Ely; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, at 6pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Larry Wilkins will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 5pm until the service time.

Mr. Gwinn Carlton “G.C.” Dotson, age 78, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2018.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Dotson was born on May 17, 1970, son of the late John Carlton Dotson and Margaret Cade Dotson. He graduated from Model high School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Prior to becoming disabled, Mr. Dotson was associated with Celanese Corporation for a number of years. He loved his dogs and enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dotson was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gail Smith Dotson, on May 10, 2011, who he married in September of 1977.
Mr. Dotson is survived by two sons, Brent Dotson and Scott Dotson. Four grandchildren also survive.
Graveside and interment services will be held on Friday morning, August 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. in East View Cemetery.

Jane Kay Lyon, 87, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018. Jane was born July 4, 1931 in Syracuse, NY daughter of the late Kenneth and Virginia Downes Battelle. She was a 1948 graduate of Central High School in Syracuse, NY. She and Karl Victor Lyon moved to Rome, GA in 1969 to open their own business after working for General Electric and Bristol Labs.
Her heart to serve others poured in to all walks of her life. In her professional working career, she served as Director of Rebecca Blaylock Child Development Center for 36 years working with families and children to provide a strong foundation and love for learning. She became a foster parent after learning that a sibling group in her daycare center would be separated. She saw a need to provide them a home where they would be together. She was a Realtor with Toles, Temple and Wright receiving many awards for sales volume and service. Her favorite part of real estate was the friendship and bonds she developed with her clients. Her servant heart shined bright when it came to her children’s activities; she loved serving as President among other positions with the Darlington Parent Teacher Association Board. She volunteered with the Pink Lady Auxiliary at Floyd Medical Center, Clean Community, Lector and Youth Group leader at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and was a Board member of the Georgia Title XX Child Care Association.
Left to honor and remember her undying love are Jane’s children, her daughter, Paula Kay Lyon Womack (Joey) of Cartersville and son, Marcus Downes Lyon (Mary Grace) of Tuscaloosa. She is survived by the grandchildren she so dearly cherished: Anna Catherine and Joseph Womack; Neely, Sadie and Maggie Lyon; Erik, Kire, Renee, Joshua and Salvatore Fichera; Christy Atlas and Kelly Orr Koski and 15 great grandchildren along with Edith and Jeremiah Curley. She leaves behind the love of her sister, Joan (Bob)
Conine of Syracuse, NY, and brothers-in-laws- Hartley Johnson of Marston Mills, MA and William Stewart of Brewerton, NY.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Anthony Fichera in 2013 and her sisters, Shirley Stewart and Lynne Johnson and her brother, Kenneth Battelle, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 11 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Juan Anzora officiating. All are welcome to a celebration of life reception will be held immediately after the Mass in the Fellowship Hall. A Rosary will be held at 10:30 AM prior to the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Building Fund at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 850 Douthit Ferry Road, Cartersville, GA.

Mrs. Willie Belle Ware, age 92, of Polk County Georgia passed away on Sunday August 05, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Willie Belle Ware was born to the late Shepherd and Mattie Hutchins Davis August 10, 1925 in Polk County Ga. She was married to Frank Sanford Ware, to this union 10 children were born. She was a faithful member of the West Aragon church of Christ since 1951. Sister Ware was involved in many activities at church She loved to teach and participate in Ladies Day. She was also a speaker at Ladies Day different at congregations. She loved personal work and helping others. Her favorite hobby was gardening . She loved flowers, any kind of flower was her kind of flower. She was employed by the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles Smith for over 45 years. Over the years the employment grew more into friendship than work.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Frank; children, Frank Eugene Ware, Nathaniel Ware, Barbara Williams, Steve Ware; Siblings Shepherd Davis Jr., Franklin Davis, Revere Hudson.
She leaves to mourn her Brother Rueben Napoleon Davis. Children: Larry Ware (Lynda) Rome, GA, Addie Wood (Linzy) Rockmart GA, Carolyn Mitchell (Wayne} Aragon GA, Kathy Staten Aragon GA, Robert Ware (Phyllis), Joann Mitchell (Alton) Temple GA, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, special friends: Bobbie Tolbert, William and Mary Hudson, Teresa Bernstein and all the members of the congregation that she loved so much.
Services for Mrs. Ware will be Friday, August 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. West Aragon Church of Christ,
655 Cash Town Loop Aragon, Georgia. She will lie in-state from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Interment will follow at the Jones family cemetery Aragon, Ga.
