Floyd County Schools more than exceeded their goal of providing 100,000 free meals during this summer’s feeding program. The official numbers are in and a total of 100,636 summer meals were provided this year according to Donna Carver,¬†Child Nutrition director with Floyd Schools.

The meals were provided at close to 70 different sites across Rome and Floyd County during the summer.

“Last year we served just under 98,000 meals. The increased participation this year was due to great weather and wonderful folks preparing and handing out meals,” she says.

“We are excited to be able to offer meals during the summer. This opportunity helps keep our students healthy during and well-nourished during their time away from school. We could never serve this many children without great staff and wonderful community partners like the YMCA, Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, the Boys and Girls Club, Action Ministries, churches and many others.”
