Each Labor Day since 1967, hundreds of guests have purchased Rome’s best barbecue, Brunswick stew and baked beans prepared with recipes five decades old.
During those 50 years, an estimated $250,000 in profits from the Knights of Columbus Labor Day Barbecue have been reinvested into our community thanks to our patrons and our sponsors. The donations help area nonprofits assist our neighbors in need.
The Knights from Saint Mary’s Catholic Church are ready to do it better than ever this Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, at the Rome Civic Center across from Steak ‘n Shake.
Doors open at 10 a.m. sharp and stay open until 2 p.m. or sold out. Guests are welcome to dine in or carry out. Options include barbecue plates, sandwiches or bulk sales.
Says Jim Powell, barbecue chairman: “The St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus family has enjoyed the enormous support from our Rome businesses and friends for 50 years, and look forward to the beginning of our next half century tradition of barbecue excellence and continued community support.”
Tickets are $10 each. Here’s what’s on the menu on Labor Day:
- $10 plates with your choice of beef, pork, ribs or a quarter of a chicken — each served with Brunswick stew, baked beans, chips and bread included.
- A pound of beef or pork to go, $10 each.
- $5 sandwich combo.
- $7 for half a chicken or a quart of baked beans.
