Rome (7-13, 47-42) struck for two runs in the top of the first, but the Drive (11-9, 36-53) slowly clawed back by scoring in four consecutive innings.
Greenville tied the game at two in the third after Kervin Suarez stole second base, then came home on a pair of Braves errors after the throw down to second. Suarez had one of two multi-hit games for the Drive, going 2-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI atop the lineup.
The Drive took the lead in the fourth with a pair of doubles from Marino Campana and Tanner Nishioka. While the double was Nishioka’s only hit of the ballgame, he reached base in three of his four trips to the plate, drawing two walks as well. Campana had the other two-hit game for Greenville.
Greenville starter Kutter Crawford (4-4) shook off his rough first inning to slice through the Rome lineup for the rest of his outing. Crawford threw six and a third innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out six to earn the victory.
Samuel Miranda led off the fifth inning with a double, who brought home on the next batter when Suarez hit his fifth triple of the season. Ryan Fitzgerald then continued his hot streak at the plate with an RBI double to extend the Drive lead to 5-2.
Rome crawled back into striking distance in the eighth with a pair of two-out runs on a pair of doubles by Greyson Jenista and William Contreras and an RBI single from Brendan Venterwhich slashed Greenville’s lead to 5-4.
Miranda added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and in the top of the ninth, Durbin Feltman, the Red Sox third-round selection in 2018, made his Greenville debut. After allowing a leadoff single, Feltman struck out the next three Rome hitters to earn his first professional save.
