Rome Braves  fall in double dip with Augusta, 5-3 and 4-0; rematch tonight. Media release: – It was a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at State Mutual Stadium between the GreenJackets and Braves. Two seven innings games were scheduled because of Saturday’s rainout. Augusta swept both games 5-3, 4-0 before a crowd of 1,804.

In game one, Orlando Garcia got things going for the GreenJackets in the first inning with a two RBI single making it a 2-0 game. Rome cut the lead in half in the third on Riley Delgado’s sacrifice fly RBI but Augusta got the run right back in the fourth on Garcia’s (4) home run for the 3-1 score. In the fifth, the GreenJackets added two more runs on Trevor Adams’ single to plate a run giving Augusta a 5-1 lead. Rome came back in the sixth on Jefry Ramos’ (9) two run homer to right center for the 5-3 score. The Braves went quietly in the seventh and Augusta held on for the win. Starter Garrett Cave (5-4) earns the win and Alan Rangel (2-5) gets the loss. John Russell (4) picks up the save.

Pitching was the name of the game for game two as both teams were held scoreless through the first six innings. In the seventh, Kelvin Rodriguez came into the game in relief of starter Hayden Deal and Augusta loaded the bases with two outs. Shane Matheny singled home two runs and Heliot Ramos added a two RBI double for the 4-0 score. Rome failed to score in the seventh and Augusta enjoyed

Heroes are getting ready to run, walk, fly and maybe even crawl into Rome for the 2018 edition of the Harbin Hero Hustle 5K and two-mile health walk on Sept.  29. But before the race can soar into action, the Harbin Heroes need your help in selecting five local charities to participate in the Harbin Hero Challenge. These charities are superheroes for the community and will receive a portion of $4,250 in donations from Harbin Clinic. The nomination period ends at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 27. To nominate a charity, individuals need to post the charity name and include the hash tag,#HarbinHeroChallenge to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.  A quick note: Shares and likes don’t count, as nominations and creating an image with the hashtag and charity name won’t work either. The hashtag “#HarbinHeroChallenge” must be in the text of the post or comment, or the vote doesn’t count.
