The inaugural Spirit of the Sun Festival takes over Downtown Rome and local rivers. It begins at 7 a.m. with the Kingfisher Classic fishing tournament on the Etowah River between Grizzard Park and Heritage Park on the Coosa River. The Chieftain’s Challenge paddle race begins at 1 p.m. Friendly to both kayaks and stand up paddleboards, this race will go along all three rivers, the Coosa, the Oostanaula, and the Etowah, and will begin at Heritage Park. The race after-party at Bridgepoint Plaza will begin at 5 p.m. with awards and then will feature a free concert open to the public with summer vibes from Mario Diaz. No coolers or outside drinks allowed; Moe’s and River Dog Outpost will have armbands available for those over 21.
Community Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rome First UMC Wilder Center, 202 E. 3rd Avenue. Donations given by the community will be sold with all proceeds benefiting Serve Rome and the William S Davies Homeless Shelters, Inc. to help provide housing and other services to members of our community who are in need. There will also be plenty of entertainment, from a dunking booth to bounce houses, and community food trucks will be in the parking lot selling all kinds of delicious food.
Rome Braves will host Augusta Greenjackets at State Mutual Stadium with games at 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Monday. The series will wrap up Monday night at 6 p.m. There will be a special giveaway on Saturday with the SAL Championship Series Bobblehead of Kolby Allard to the first 1,000 fans. Braves
