Two Rome men have been charged with burglary, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers and probation violation after a standoff with the Rome-Floyd SWAT team at 206 Coker Drive in West Rome on Friday night. Christopher Adam Harper, 32, and Timothy Duane Morgan, 33, are now in the Floyd County Jail.
From WRGA: According to Capt. Trixie Morgan with the Rome City Police Department, police were called out to a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of a vacant home. At the time police did not know the home was vacant. The officer knocked on the door to make contact. A person in the home opened the door and when they saw it was police, shut the door.
SWAT was activated and cleared the home. Two people were taken into custody and are being booked at Floyd County Jail. Several items had been taken from the home and were found in the vehicle. Authorities were at the scene for nearly five hours.
11 p.m. Update: Witnesses report the SWAT standoff situation at 206 Coker Drive in West Rome is over. Police units have cleared the area.
At 7:45 p.m., Floyd 911 confirmed there was a “situation” going on at 206 Coker Drive in West Rome. Police have the area blocked off and are not letting residents down the roadway.
Witnesses report the SWAT team is on the scene with weapons drawn. Residents are being told to stay away from windows and lock doors. We will have more updates when available.
