Northwest Georgia will celebrate Independence Day with several events including patriotic concerts, parades and, of course, fireworks. Here is your guide to today’s events in Rome, Cartersville and Calhoun.
The 33rd Annual Cave Spring Fourth of July parade will be held at 9 a.m. in Downtown Cave Spring. Those who would like to participate in the parade should line up between 8 – 9 a.m. All vehicles, floats with wheels and horses line up on Perry Farm Road. All who wish to walk in the parade should assemble at Joe Hill’s Lawn Mower Shop at the old depot building on Alabama Street. The parade will begin from that location and make its way to the square. The Patriotic Party in the Park begins at 3 p.m. at Ridge Ferry Park. The annual event hosted by Rome-Floyd Parks and Rec and Parker Systems will feature family games, musical entertainments and fireworks at dark. Vendors and kid zone opens at 3 p.m. with $5 arm bands for all day play. Music and family games from 6-8 p.m. including hula hoop contest, watermelon eating, water balloon contest and pie eating contest. Little Known Letter takes stage at 8 p.m. for music entertainment, followed by fireworks at dark around 9:30 p.m.
Cartersville’s annual Fourth of July celebration will include a parade, concert and fireworks, presented by the Rotary Club of Etowah with WBHF FM 100.3 and AM 1450. The parade down Main Street begins at 9 a.m. in the Tabernacle Baptist Church parking lot. The procession, which leaves Douglas Street, turns right onto Church Street, then continues to make a left on Bartow Street, left on Main Street, left on Tennessee Street and left on East Church Street. It ends back at the church. This year’s Grand Marshal is 104 year-old Roy Bethune who served five years in the Army during World War II. The July 4th Celebration at Dellinger Park is a community-wide event that includes arts & crafts, children’s activities, entertainment and fireworks. Park activities start at 2 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. Admission to Dellinger Park is free and parking is $5 per vehicle. A Kid’s Zone sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will feature huge inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bounces, Quad Euro Bungee and more. Live entertainment will include an acoustic show from Scott Thompson from 5-7 p.m., followed by Scott Thompson and Peachtree Station at 8 p.m. Fireworks will launch from Dellinger Park about 9:30 p.m. Details
Calhoun’s ‘Star-Spangled Celebration’ will be at the Cherokee Capital Fairgrounds. Gates open at 5 p.m. with music and entertainment featuring Babes Bayou, Stiltwalker Carrie McQueen, Tommy Ray Gurley, Magic with Mike Frisbee and Expressions Performing Arts. Fireworks begin around 9:30 p.m. The event is free to the community and sponsored by Mohawk. Details
