Charles Freddy Hardin

Mr. Charles Freddy Hardin, age 79, of Rome passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mr. Hardin was born October 15, 1938, in Floyd County, a son of the late Henry Thomas Hardin, and Sara Pearl Payne Hardin. He was a member of Shorter Ave. Baptist Church, and the Faith Senior Men’s Sunday School. Mr. Hardin was retired from Inland Container after over 40 years of services, he was a volunteer with Floyd County Baptist Association Food Pantry for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tommie Lou (Gus) Warren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Davis Hardin, son, Charles “Chuck” (Melissa) Hardin, Rome; daughter, Kim (Matt) Mathis, Rome; brother, Randy (Nita) Hardin, Rome; grandchildren, Colt Hardin, Jaycee Hardin, Ashley (Brian) Whelchel, Amy Mathis, Andy Mathis, great granddaughter, Braylee Whelchel, step granddaughters, Chloe Dempsey, Brittany Dempsey, step great grandson, Bryxon, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday July 5, 2018 at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church, Dr.. Charles Drummond, Rev. Glen Clonts, and Rev. Max Tucker, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday, at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the church by 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, Andy Mathis, Colt Hardin, Brian Whelchel, Bradley Brooks, Michael Gilreath, Chris Smith, and Tim Agan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Faith Senior Mens Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Floyd County Baptist Food Pantry.

Ms. Betty Jo Coursey, age 80, of Lindale, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018, at a local healthcare facility.

Ms. Coursey was born in Alabama on October 21, 1937, daughter of the late Braxton B. Bobo and the late Hazel Stone Bobo.  She was a homemaker and had attended the Desoto Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Coursey, Lindale; a granddaughter, Chasity Lowe, Rome; three great grandchildren, Chase Lowe, Allie Lowe and Emily Lowe; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 11:30am at Floyd Memory Gardens.  The Rev. Tony Cargle will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 10 until 11am.

God needed another butterfly for his bouquet, announcing the passing of baby, Learic Goodgame, Monday, July 2. 2018 age 8 months, of Rome, Georgia. Services for Baby Learic Goodgame are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a another date. Wright Memorial Mortuary, Inc. has full charge of arrangements.


Marion J. Howell, age 89, born September 27, 1928 and died June 30, 2018. Graveside Service at the East View Cemetery, Kingston Avenue, at 1:00 PM on July 9, 2018. Miller & Richards Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home.


Mr. Sammie Key, age 79, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018, at Floyd Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Services are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary, Inc. has full charge of arrangements.


Ms. Margie Fran Peace, age 75, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at a local hospital.

Ms. Peace was born in Rome, Georgia on April 22, 1943, daughter of the late Roy Alverson and the late Georgia Elise Anderson Alverson Crowson.  She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Tommy Crowson.  She worked for many years in sales and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Jenifer Wade, Rome; two sons, Jeff Peace, Rome, and Jerome Peace, Rome; five grandchildren, Daniel Burchett, Markus Burchett, Lauren Fallin, Heather Peace and Jayson Peace; three great grandchildren, Ava Lovering, Isaac Fallin and Paityn Burchett; a brother, Gordon Alverson, Rome; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 3pm at East View Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.  Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery on Thursday at 2:55pm.

Henry Glenn Simpson passed away July 1 2018. Born June 24, 2018, he was a resident of Floyd County.

He is survived by his Father David Simpson and Mother Lauren Padgett Simpson and a proud Sister Miss Sadie Simpson. He is preceded in death by his sister Berkley Simpson.

Private graveside service will be conducted on Friday July 6, at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Jason Willis presiding.
