Services set for Friday for Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputy Jennifer Dawn New who died Saturday of natural causes while on duty

From Bartow County Sheriff’s Office: It is with tremendous sadness and heartache that we report that Deputy Jennifer Dawn New (#830) passed away Saturday, June 30th. She was on duty working at the Bartow County Detention Center when she became sick. With the advice from our medical department, she was transported to the hospital where she later passed away.

Deputy New started working for the sheriff’s office on March 28, 2016 at the age of 40 in the Jail Division. During her career she graduated Jail Officer School to become a certified Jailer. New went on to complete the rigorous Police Academy classes to become a Deputy Sheriff on June 30, 2017. This one year to the day of her passing.

We will always remember her kindness, great smile, and friendship. Please keep her family and our BCSO family in your prayers.

Jennifer Dawn New, 42, of Cartersville, GA passed away Saturday, June, 30, 2018. Jennifer was born September 6, 1975 to the late Mr. Howard Van Hook and Mrs. Helen Rose Van Hook in Somerset, KY.

Jennifer was a courageous woman. She was what you call the DEFINITION of a mother to her three children and her “Chunky Monkey, Kadelyn who were her life. She was known as the neighborhood mom, inspiring and mentoring neighborhood children. Jennifer worked for Bartow County for over two years as a sheriff’s deputy. She served her community honorably and faithfully.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Marvin Van Hook.

Jennifer is survived by her son, Brennen (Courtney) New, daughter, Lara New and son, Aeden New, granddaughter, Kadelyn New, sisters; Jessica Shawn (Duane) Wilson, Debbie (Allen) Hall, Karen Carrender, Cindy Van Hook, Stacy Brown, Erica (Joe) Sworden all of Somerset, Kentucky, and Regina (Randall) Irvin of Cartersville, GA, brothers; Steve (Tracy) Van Hook, Jared (Amanda) Van Hook, Bo (Renee) Pyles, Tyler Watkins and Trevor (Katelyn) Watkins all of Kentucky, a host of nieces and nephews also survive to cherish Jennifer’s memory.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 6, 2018 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Clay Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Saturday, July 7, 2018 at three thirty in the afternoon in Somerset, KY.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 5, 2018 from five thirty in the evening until nine at Owen Funeral Home, Cartersville, GA and Saturday, July 7, 2018 from one thirty in the afternoon until three thirty at Pulaski Funeral Home, Somerset, KY.
