Alfred Ross "Bo"  Bohannon

Alfred Ross “Bo” Bohannon, age 75, of Rome passed away Saturday June 30, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mr. Bohannon was born March 16, 1943 in Floyd County a son of the late G. E. Bohannon, Sr. and Lillian Green Bohannon. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM. Mr. Bohannon was retired from City of Rome Water Department after 37 years of service. He also was associated with Stevens-Davenport and Fred Talley Funeral Homes. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Payne, brothers, G. E. Bohannon, Jr. and Bill Bohannon.

Survivors include his wife Linda Selman Bohannon to whom he just celebrated 50 years of marriage, a son, Terry and Heather Bohannon, grandsons, Dakota Roper, and Justin Roper, two sisters, Callie Averitt, of Atlanta, Ga; Glenda Sue Bryant, of Anniston, Al; brother in law and sister in law, Ed and Ann Selman, sister in law, Carolyn Gilbert, special daughter, Angie and Scott Minge, nieces Cristie and Tim Smith, Ruthiey and Jim Boggs, Lori and Ken MacKenzie, nephews, Jeff and Karen Bohannon, Hal and Deborah Bohannon, Benny and Teresa Bohannon, Winston and Karen Bryant, Brian and Lisa Selman, Kevin and Jennifer Selman, Susan and Richard Dunwoody, Rick and Loretta Gilbert, several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Am Tuesday July 3, 2018 at Riverside Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Lambert, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday July 2, 2018, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Mr. Bohannon will lie in state at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Floyd Medical Center 5 West nurses and staff and Redmond Regional Medical Center ICU for the exceptional care given.

Ms. Dondra Cubitt, age 52 of Rome, Ga. passed on Monday, July 2, 2018. Arrangements are incomplete.  Care and direction entrusted to F. K. Jones Funeral Home.


Mrs. Gloria Leola Daniel, age 88, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, in Acworth.

Mrs. Daniel was the daughter of the late Rufus G. Simons and the late Alma Mercedes Bledsoe Simons.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alma Elaine Daniel.  She worked as a Nursing Assistant and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Daniel, of Acworth.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 11:30am at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedartown.  The Rev. Jamie Hutcheson will officiate.

Elaine Huskey Ferguson, age 92, of Silver Creek, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Ferguson was born in Cedartown, Georgia on February 16, 1926, to the late Henry Melvin Huskey and the late Bessie Weaver Huskey. She moved to Rome in 1937.

Formerly married to Charles Robert Howell, she had two children, Weaver Silvertooth (formerly Judith Elaine Howell) and Charles Randolph Howell. She later moved out of state and married Jack Boyce Ferguson of Illinois. They resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia for several years. After her husband’s death in 1994, she relocated to Rome in 2003 to live with her son, Charles Howell.

She was a homemaker and volunteer for the Red Cross and several charitable organizations.

She is survived by her two children, Weaver Silvertooth of Clarkston, Georgia and Charles Howell of Silver Creek, Georgia and three nieces, Elaine Ricks (John) of Cochran, GA, Gwen Mayenschein (Bob) of Lawrenceville, GA and Susan McLeod (Tom), Rio Rancho, NM.

The family will hold a memorial service in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Rome, where she was a member. The service will be on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1pm.

Charles Freddy Hardin, age 79, of Rome passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday July 5, 2018 at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday, at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church.

Robert Anthony (Tony) Jennings, 57 of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018 after a long battle with non-alcoholic liver disease. After 9 years of fighting secondary life threatening episodes, he finally received a call for a liver transplant on June 21, 2018. Unfortunately, during transplant surgery, cancer was found, and the transplant was not possible. At his request, he was transported home to be with family during his final days.

Tony was born in Conyers, Georgia on February 2, 1961, third child and only son of J.C. and Mae Jennings. He graduated from Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia where he excelled in academics, football, pole vault and wrestling. He is listed in “Who’s Who in America High Schools” in 1979. He continued on to Georgia Technical Institute on a wrestling scholarship where he studied Chemical Engineering. He later attended Georgia Highlands College where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management.

Tony worked as a Supervisor for Mohawk Industries until his illness prevented him from doing so. He enjoyed everything Georgia Tech, especially football; fireworks, holidays, fishing, animals, eating, playing games of any kind and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sheron Jennings, Rome; two stepsons, Shane and Jeremy Barnes, Carrollton; his parents, J.C. and Mae Jennings, Cartersville; sisters, Jane and Trell Sullivan, Woodstock; Janine and Joseph Jennings, Atlanta; Jill and Phil Frasier, Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Savannah and Matthew Barnes, Carrollton, and many nieces and nephews.

Per Tony’s wishes, there will be no public service. There will be a private memorial service at his grandfather’s home in South Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Georgia Transplant Foundation, 2201 Macy Drive, Roswell, GA 30076 or www.gatransplant.org.

Jerry Lee Norton

Jerry Lee Norton, age 73, of Lindale, passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Norton was born July 18, 1944, in Troup County, Ga. a son of the late Ernest Norton, and Musa Mae Donavan Norton. He was owner of Norton Fork lift before his retirement. Mr. Norton was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by a daughter Jamie Leeann Norton, and five siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Norton, children, Jerry Lee (Allen) Norton, Jr. Gerrie Lynn Wiker, Judy Terrell, J.L. Norton, Jr. Jason Bradley, Jennifer Ollis, Debbie Walton, and Joshua Norton, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday July 6, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Greg Montgomery, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service, on Friday.

James Clyde “Bud” Tucker, Jr. age 68, of Cedar Bluff, passed away Saturday June 30, 2018 in a local hospital.

Bud was born January 5, 1950, in Cobb County, Ga. a son of the late James Clyde Tucker, Sr. and Christine Head Tucker. He was a member of Gaylesville 2nd Baptist Church, and was retired from Georgia Pacific, as a maintenance superintendent. Bud was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving during the Viet Nam War.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Melynda Hanks Tucker, daughters, Jennifer Lynn (Reginald) Jones, Cedar Bluff; Jessica Christine Tucker, Cedar Bluff; sister, Pat Barfield, brother, Keith Tucker, granddaughters, Mya Jones, and Jessema Jones, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (Ga. Time) Thursday July 5, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Alvin Bullard, and Rev. Tom Barfield, officiating. Interment will follow in Hardeman Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Mr. Kenneth Dewayne Woods, age 39, of  Silver Creek, Ga. transitioned June 30, 2018. Celebration Of Life for Mr. Kenneth Dewayne Woods will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1 pm at Christ Temple RPC.  Interment will follow the service at Morning View Cemetery (Hwy 53).
