Evan Garnett, a rising senior at Unity Christian School, is pictured with Cedar Bluff Mayor Tammy Crane. He presented the flag he designed to the Cedar Bluff Town Council on Monday night. The cedar tree represents the town name, the blue for Weiss Lake, the white for surrounding cotton fields. Evan attends Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome.

Rome Christmas Parade preparations begin in August as the Parade Committee will choose a theme for the 2018 parade. If you have any suggestions, please post them here. You can see themes here. This year’s parade will be on Tuesday, Nov. 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

From Clocktower Classic Handcycle Race:  “For those of you following this page, sadly, we have had to cancel this year’s event. Full refunds are in the process. Best of luck to everyone participating in Nationals this week. We’ll miss you!”

Blood Assurance is giving away Rome Braves tickets to the donors who refer the most new donors or donors who have not given recently (in the last six months). The “Refer a Friend to Win” contest is under way and ends Thursday, June 28. A new whole blood recruit will earn the donor 1 point, a new platelet recruit will earn the donor 2 points. The donor with the most points by Thursday, June 28 will win two tickets to the July 3 Rome Braves game at State Mutual Stadium complete with a post-game fireworks show. Second place is two tickets to Sunday’s game on July 1 and 3rd place is two tickets to Monday’s game, July 2.

This is one of the many efforts Blood Assurance has in place this June to SOS: Save Our Summer! The summer months are difficult for collections with many folks out-of-town on vacation and off their usual routine, yet usage is often times high during these summer months. In addition to Rome Braves tickets, Blood Assurance is also giving away a Carnival Cruise certificate valued at $1,000 as well as a $100 VISA gift card. The VISA card will be awarded to one lucky donor at the end of June. For more local information and to stay up-to-date with the summer’s giveaways and promotions, like us at Blood Assurance Rome.

The Rome Donor Center is at 168 Shorter Ave. in the Midtown Crossing Shopping Center between Hobby Lobby and Longhorn Steaks and is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. To schedule a blood donation appointment donors can call 706-235-9853 or text BAGIVE to 444999.

Donors must be 18 years of age (16 & 17 year olds can donate with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. For more information about blood donation visit www.bloodassurance.org<http://www.bloodassurance.org>.
