Weekend guide: What’s happening today:
28th annual Rock Fest at Tellus Science Museum. The “southeast’s favorite rock how” returns with gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry dealers from across the country. At our Demonstration Station, you can watch local experts show you various jewelry-making techniques. If you are looking to get in on the action, purchase a geode at the Geode Station and have it cracked open! There will also be various geology-themed children’s activities in the Great Hall. RockFest is also a great opportunity to have your own minerals, rocks, and fossils identified. If you have unearthed something that appears to be rare or just “different”, bring it to the Mineral and Fossil ID Table under the big tent to have it identified by our Tellus experts. This event is free for members and included with museum admission for non-members. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Expanded details
