Jay Shell expects more than 8,000 fans for today’s Rome River Jam at Ridge Ferry Park. At 9 this morning, the concert site was buzzing. An armada of support vehicles already were in place, from the Parker System semis to Otter’s Chicken to dozens of others. Even the “get off my lawn” signs are out at RiverWalk strip center so be careful where you park.

ACM’s Male Vocalist of the Year, Kane Brown, is this year’s headline with special guest is Riley Green.  More than 6,800 tickets have been sold; your best option now is via online or walkup. The International Aerobatic Club Southeast Bear Creek Bash aerobatic competition continues Saturday at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport.  Aerobatic activity will begin at 9 a.m. and end around 5 p.m. with a break for lunch around noon to 1 p.m. The competition will include many top aerobatic pilots with at least eight members of the U.S. Advanced Team, including two-time National Advanced Champion Aaron McCartan. This event is open to the public and admission is free.  Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs/blankets as seating is limited.  Spectators can view the event from the parking lot or from the fenced area behind the terminal building. For more information, please contact the Floyd County Clerk’s office at (706) 291-5110.

Saturday, Sunday: 28th annual Rock Fest at Tellus Science Museum. The “southeast’s favorite rock how” returns with gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry dealers from across the country. At our Demonstration Station, you can watch local experts show you various jewelry-making techniques. If you are looking to get in on the action, purchase a geode at the Geode Station and have it cracked open! There will also be various geology-themed children’s activities in the Great Hall. RockFest is also a great opportunity to have your own minerals, rocks, and fossils identified. If you have unearthed something that appears to be rare or just “different”, bring it to the Mineral and Fossil ID Table under the big tent to have it identified by our Tellus experts.
