Rome Braves bounce back with 7-1 win over Asheville; rubber game tonight. Media release: The Asheville Tourists fell to the Rome Braves 7-1 on Wednesday night thanks to another brilliant starting pitching performance from Rome’s Huascar Ynoa. The right-hander spun six shutout innings and struck out 11.
Ynoa’s previous outing came against Asheville, in Rome, where he also tossed six shutout innings with nine strikeouts. The Tourists scored their lone run of the game in the seventh inning when Ryan Vilade doubled, then took third and home on a pair of wild pitches.
Garrett Schilling pitched well for Asheville despite suffering only his second loss of the season. Schilling went 5.1 innings and surrendered three runs, two earned. The Tourists right-hander struck out seven.
Asheville struck out a season-high 14 times in the game. Ynoa became the first pitcher to record more than ten strikeouts against Asheville in a single game this season. The Braves offensively were led by Jean Carlos Encarnacion. Their third baseman went 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and three RBI. Encarnacion is batting .440 (22-for-50) against the Tourists this year.
Austin Moore made a quality appearance out of the Tourists bullpen and helped Schilling work out of a sixth inning jam. Moore struck out both hitters he faced and kept the Tourists within striking distance at the time.
