THE LATEST

-As of 7:30 p.m., power outages around 1,793; at least 171 customers in the dark in Floyd County; 692 in Bartow County. Georgia Power.

-About 253 out in Gordon County. North Georgia EMC.

-About 677 without power in Polk County.

-Almost an inch of rain in the past hour at the airport. Officially through 7 p.m., 1.40 inches of rain here since midnight.

-Gusts as high as 46 mph with sustained winds of 29 mph at one point.

-Gordon County Emergency Management reporting trees down in Red Bud Road area; also near Sugar Valley Road. Gardner Springs Road closed due to high water.

Overnight storm dumps nearly eight tenths of an inch of rain at the airport (more than all of Alberto’s clouds). Gusts of 17 mph accompanied the storm between 1 and 3 a.m.

OUTLOOK

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms can be expected Friday through Sunday, most so in the afternoon and evening. A few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall. No hazardous weather is expected Monday and Tuesday.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
