THE LATEST

The National Weather Service has again extended the flash flood watch, this time until 2 a.m. Thursday. The main reason: A large area of showers and thunderstorms will impact portions of northern Georgia through this evening and into the overnight hours (check the above radar). Additional rainfall of 1 to 1.5 inches can be expected with locally higher amounts. Some of these amounts could fall in a short period of time. Creek and river levels are already above average and will not take much additional rainfall to cause levels to rise above bankfull.

OUTLOOK

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms can be expected today. A few storms could become severe with a threat for damaging wind and heavy rainfall. Scattered thunderstorms will continue through Friday before becoming more isolated Saturday through Tuesday. A few of these storms could become strong, carrying a threat of gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.
