Mr. Luther Elbert “Junior” Salmon Jr., age 94, of Rome, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, in a local hospital.

Mr. Salmon was born in Rome, Ga., on June 12, 1923, son of the late Luther Elbert Salmon Sr. and the late Bonnie Wilkins Salmon.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lou Montgomery Salmon, by 2 sisters, Patty Salmon Lumpkin and Emma Jo Salmon Loflin, and by 2 brothers, Wade and William Oscar “Bill” Salmon.

Mr. Salmon was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Greenwood’s Lindale Manufacturing Co. after 50 years at the Lindale Mill.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, the American Legion Post #136 in Lindale, and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Salmon Terrell (James), Rome; 2 grandchildren, Wesley Terrell, Pensacola, FL and Bonnie Terrell, Savannah; a sister, Ruth Salmon Wilkins, Rome; special friends, Steve and Cheryl Allen, Rome, and Ginny and Andrew Morgan, Kennesaw; honorary great granddaughter, Madeline Morgan, Kennesaw; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the graveside in Floyd Memory Gardens.  Barry Henderson will officiate with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 1 until 2:30 p.m..  At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence of his daughter.

Mr. Henry Lee Burke, age 83, of Rome, Ga., passed away on Monday evening, May 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Burke was born in Millen, Ga., on November 4, 1934, son of the late Olin and Frances Elizabeth Burke.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.  Prior to retirement in 1992, Mr. Burke worked as a customer engineer for IBM Corporation for over 33 years.

He was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church for 49 years, where he served in many roles including deacon, teacher of men’s Sunday School class, and Training Union Director.  Mr. Burke also served on the building committee for the present sanctuary built in 1972.  He graduated from Millen High School and Southern Technical College.

Mr. Burke is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty McCoy Burke, whom he married August 25, 1955; son, Stephen Burke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Billy Covington, and Melanie and Dean Drummond; six grandchildren, Jonathan Cantrell, Sara Beth Howes (Nate), Katie Cole, Mary Burke Drummond, Madeline Drummond and Brady Drummond.  Nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Deason also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Burke will be hold on Thursday afternoon May 17, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Pastor Jarrod Roberts officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Burke will remain at Salmon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Anetta Ann Garrett answered God’s call for her on May 13, 2018, surrounded by loved ones and her close friends.  She was born on May 1, 1963, to Billy and Ruby Garrett in Rome, Georgia.

Survivors include two children: Marcus (Antoinette) Garrett and Keysa (Demetrius) Garrett of Rome, Georgia; four grandchildren: Mikeysa, Ma’Kenya, Marcus Jr., and Montrell; two sisters:  Matcilla (David) Garrett of Rome, Georgia and Cheryl (Louis) McClure of Douglasville, Georgia; a brother- Anthony Fullard of Williamsburg, VA.; her step-father Herbert (Kimberly) Morgan; nieces and nephews: Andrea Garrett, LaQuisha Morris, Steven Fullard, Tevin Garrett, Charles Garrett-Roundtree, Danny Garrett Jr, Joseph Cole Jr and Richard Albert Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A time of gathering and celebration will be held at Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia, on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Terrell Shields officiating. Interment will follow at the East View Cemetery, Rome, Georgia.

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Wright Memorial Mortuary.
