Remembering Mr. Grover Calvin Byars Jr., Patricia Ann McCain Comer, Dean Lamar Edmondson, Mr. James Ladell Penn, Mr. M.C. Winston.

Mr. Grover Calvin Byars Jr., age 85, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Byars was born in Floyd County on September 26, 1931, son of the late Grover Calvin Byars Sr., and the late Gertrude Gresham Byars.  He was a graduate of Rome Boy’s High School.  He was a veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1949 until 1952, achieving the rank of sergeant.  He was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Byars was a former employee of the Georgia Kraft Company, retiring after over 30 years of service.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Formby Byars on June 22, 2000, and a brother, William Robert Byars in 2014.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Davis, and her husband, Barry, Cartersville; a brother, John Lamar Byars, and his wife, Mary Jane, Rome; a sister-in-law, Helen Byars, Rome; 2 nephews, William Byars, and his wife, Janie, Rome, and Bill Byars, and his wife, Tracie, Cedartown; 2 nieces, Christine Newberry, and her husband, Kenny, Silver Creek, and Jane Stone, and her husband, Lawrence, Rome.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lamar Barden and the Rev. Dan White officiating.  Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post # 5 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Wednesday from 1pm until time for the service.  At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Pallbearers serving will be members of the Marine Corps League and are requested to assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the William S. Davies Homeless Shelters, Inc., 3 Central Plaza #198, Rome, GA  30161.

Patricia Ann McCain ComerPatricia Ann McCain Comer, age 74, of Rome, Ga., went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2016.

Pat was born in Rome, GA on August 18, 1942, daughter of the late Wallace and Melvina McCain. She was a 1961 graduate of Coosa High School. She was a beautician and owned her own business for over 45 years. She loved her career and her customers and they loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Troy and Clyde McCain.

Pat is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Wayne Comer, to whom she was married on January 11, 1964. A son DeWayne Comer and his wife Tammy, a daughter Laney Crews and her husband Pete. She had five granddaughters Lindsey Baldwin (David), Amy and Carly Comer, and Kendal and Isabella Crews. A great grandson Daylon Comer. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and she loved them dearly. A very special great nephew Josh Allen and his wife Kristen and their children Laney, Jalyn and Coley. She is also survived by her brothers Charles and Ed McCain and a brother in law Wayne Randall. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Pat took her role as an aunt very serious and she loved all of her nieces and nephews as her own and they loved her. She was a devoted friend and had many lifelong friendships.

She was a member of Mt. Alto Baptist Church. She loved the lord and her church family. She never met a stranger and she made everyone feel loved with her contagious smile and warm hugs

A service will be held Monday, December 5, 2016, at 2 pm at Mt Alto Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Frank Wood officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Kevin Randall, Keith Randall, Randy McCain, Chris Comer, Lane Lawler and Tim Umberhandt. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Comer, Glover Hall, Wayne Randall and the members of the Fellowship Sunday School class.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Alto Debt Relief Fund or the Youth Fund. Mt. Alto Baptist Church 1915 Huffaker Road, Rome, GA 30165.

Mr. James Ladell Penn, 67, of Rome, Georgia passed Saturday, December 3, 2016. Arrangements will be announced by Wright Memorial Mortuary.

Dean Lamar EdmondsonDean Lamar Edmondson,
age 63,  of Shannon passed away Saturday December 3, 2016 at his residence.
Lamar was born April 4, 1953 in Canton, Ga. a son of the late Willie D. Edmondson, and Evelyn Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Edmondson Bagley.
Survivors include brothers, Randy and Gary Edmondson, several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday December 6, 2016 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Marvin Jackson, officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of the service on Tuesday.
Mr. M.C. Winston, 66, of Rome, Georgia passed Sunday, December 4, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements will be announced at a later date by Wright Memorial Mortuary.
