On of the big success stories in downtown Rome has been a return to the river with the opening of River Dog Outpost at 1 Broad St. The former gas station turned barbecue hut turned riverside bar draws a steady crowd, especially when local food trucks are on site. It offers Greater Rome a bit of waterfront relaxation, dining and libations.
Joining River Dog is Off Broad by the River, an offshoot of Ira Levy’s Off Broad Lounge in the Hawthorn Suites complex off Second Avenue and Broad Street. On Saturday afternoon, Off Broad by the River was selling grilled hamburgers, Chicago hot dogs and polish sausages, served with wine and beer.
It is refreshing to see two entrepreneurs open up the riverfront to casual dining and drinks, something the city has lacked for years.
Seasons Rome sets grand opening for Wednesday. The new restaurant at 208 Broad St. was open for dinner three nights last week. It will open for lunch and dinner beginning Wednesday, closing Tuesday to fix a software problem with its point-of-sale system. Partial menu:
