It was the first road playoff win in Rome history and moved the Wolves into the quarterfinals for the sixth time in eight years. Rome after Friday night now will break the school record for most playoff games in any four-year period. Statesboro took advantage of a North Clayton decision to pass up a short field goal attempt in the fourth quarter that resulted in a failed first down attempt and held on for a close win. Rome suffered the second worst defeat in the last 10 years at Statesboro in 2001 when the Wolves lost a 35-7 quarterfinal game to the Blue Devils. This Statesboro team is not as good as that state championship team. Rome wins by 4.
Mount Zion-Jonesboro (8-4) at Marist (11-0)
Mount Zion has been the surprise playoff team in Class AAAA with back-to-back upsets of unbeaten Evans and traditional power Ware County. Marist, after a loss in its season opener to St. Pius X, has steamrolled opponents. Marist wins by 20.

This is a rematch of last year’s Class AA state championship game and pits two of the schools who have dominated the classification in this decade. Dublin’s only loss came to Laney in the second week of the year. Buford has not lost since a 2006 quarterfinal game against Charlton County and Blessed Trinity is the only team to come close to beating the Wolves this year. Buford wins by 13.
